Islam: Getting To Know Your Neighbor
As our communities grow more diverse, understanding each other becomes increasingly essential. This course affords the opportunity to get to know one another through presentations and discussions about Islam. Topics will include the history and culture of pre-Islamic Arabia; the life of the Prophet, Muhammad; Muslim beliefs and practices; the origin and role of the Sunni/Shia division within Islam; The Golden Age of Islam; the rise of the Turks, and social views on topics like family and gender. During the course, especially the last class, participants will be able to have an open dialogue with Muslims from our local mosque.
