Written Expression Through Journalism (ages 8 - 11)
In this course students will use their writing skills in informational and persuasive writing creatively, to create, edit, and publish, their own newspaper. Students will collaborate with other students in thought provoking discussions, learning how to share ideas and solutions to problems facing our society. Students will be able to identify appropriate and news worthy local or world events and write a descriptive article about the event. Also, students will use their powers of persuasion to create thought provoking editorials about the world they live in. Students' artistic abilities will be challenged when they draw and annotate cartoons and comics to critique events in their lives, and situations that they perceive as important.
