This class will include a blacksmithing demo and describe the work done by the blacksmiths and wheelwrights who worked at the shop from 1740 until 1949. The Goshenville Blacksmith and Wheelwright Shops (circa 1740-50) have rich history which incudes the Ashbridge family who built them, the connection to the Battle of the Clouds, battle of Goshen and the Paoli Massacre. Mr. Kerschner, the volunteer blacksmith and historian will describe the role of Founding Father Geo. Clymer and his father in law Reese Meredith, owners of the shop in 1777 when the British army arrived in the town. Also an account of the British fording of the Schuykill River on their way to occupying Philadelphia during the winter of 1777-78.
