CASTLES of BUCKS COUNTY and Peddler’s Village
Fonthill Castle
DAYTRIP ITINERARY:
8:30am Depart West Goshen Park and Ride via deluxe Motor coach (arrive by 8:15am).
9:30am Visit the unique Byers’ Choice Carolers Store - For more than 40 years, Byers' Choice hasbeen dedicated
to bringing you the finest handcrafted gifts with the iconic Caroler® figurines. Every Caroler is lovingly handmade in
this facility to bring the special warmth and traditions of Christmas into your home.
10:45am Visit to The Mercer Museum, a six-story reinforced concrete castle designed by Henry Mercer
(1856-1930) and completed in 1916. Today, it is one of Bucks County’s premier cultural attractions and a
Smithsonian affiliate. The museum complex features a core museum collection of over 17,000 pre-Industrial
tools. This permanent collection offers a unique window into pre-Industrial America through 60 different crafts
and trades - American material culture. Self-guided.
12:15pm Lunch at the Cock ‘N Bulll Restaurant. Enjoy a delicious plated meal in Peddler’s Village.
After lunch, enjoy time browsing and shopping the unique Peddler’s Village, a storybook town
with charming colonial-style buildings, award-winning landscaped gardens, and distinctive
shopping, dining, and lodging.
3:15pm Depart Peddler’s Village
3:30pm Guided Tour of Fonthill Castle, Doylestown. Built between 1908-1912, Fonthill Castle was the home
of archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramist, scholar and antiquarian Henry Chapman Mercer. He built Fonthill
Castle as his home and a showplace for his collection of tiles and prints. The castle serves as an early example of
reinforced concrete and features 44 rooms, over 200 windows, and 18 fireplaces. Fonthill Castle’s interior
features Mercer’s renowned, hand-crafted ceramic tiles designed at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement
5:00pm (Approx.) Departure
6:15pm (Approx.) Return to West Goshen Park and Ride
