SAVE the Birds! Wonderful Birding At Your Backyard Feeders

Explore the fun and entertaining world of backyard bird feeding in late winter and get inspired to participate in Citizen Science projects such as Feederwatch or the International Great Backyard Bird Count! You will learn not only about identifying backyard birds, but also about habitat and feeding preferences of the birds that will come to your backyard feeders. Birding is a great way for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with nature and other people across the globe. Birds have declined by more than 50% in the last 50 years. That means that 1 in 4 bird species have disappeared in North America since 1970! By observing birds and sharing your information you can help scientists understand how poulations are faring in your region. We will discuss seven steps you can do to help birds, software tools and the best equipment for observatrions, feeders, types of bird appropriate food, preventing window collisions and thwarting squirrels and other hungry critters. We will also spend time talking about tricky bird ID's so you can know your sparrows - those little brown jobs - many that are in serious decline. The last class will be a 9:00 am Sunday morning visit onn 10/12/2025 to a local birding hotspot (location TBD) to observe migrants that might come to your backyard.
