Fresh and Local - Grow Your Own Organic Fruits and Vegetables
The continuing escalation of fresh produce prices, concerns about produce safety and challenges from an increasingly hard to predict weather in the region might have you wondering how you can have a productive vegetable, herb and fruit garden. What most people don't realize is that it is they can easily grow their own produce - whether in raised beds, mixed in with the flowers or in containers! This workshop will teach you times saving and sustainable methods on how to set up and select the fruits, berries, herbs and vegetables best suited for your family. Soil preparation, composting, seed starting, transplanting, care, irrigation, pest management, harvesting and preserving your abundant harvest will be covered. Techniques for extending your season in the spring and fall will also be discussed. Students will start tomatoes, eggplants, peppers or zucchini from seed.
